Hungarian Jews on the Spot

About this project

In the series, Hungarian Jews on the Spot we introduce 12 Jewish communities, organizations, families, and individuals, who still maintain their Jewishness in some way, preserve the Jewish heritage in their given settlement, or contribute to and promote the local Jewish communal or religious life. Our goal is to give these people as much publicity as possible. With the series, we would like to reach those Jews and non-Jews, who are interested in cultures, and the roots of Jewish culture, who care about what and how modern life can preserve the old traditions, and who are curious about the coexistence and mixing of cultures.

Why is it important?

Why is it important?

In our experience, there is great interest in articles that introduce the everyday life of the Jewish community; the readers like to take a peek into everyday life. These articles confirm for the reader that this culture is still alive, it can be practiced, and they show an example for the Jewish readers how they could include it in their everyday life. They also help the non-Jewish readers to get close to another culture, or another group; it helps coexistence.

Why is it special?

Why is it special?

Although the readers need real-life reporting and discussions, there is less and less time and energy for this in the media. This series aims to fill that gap and introduces the exciting yet less known aspects of the Jewish community's life and talk more honestly and openly about issues concerning the local Jewish community. The Hungarian Jews on the Spot does not only use the tools of traditional journalism as it also tries to reach its audience through video reports, YouTube, and podcast discussions.
