Passover exhibitions

About this project

In the work of 2B Gallery, thematic group art exhibitions introducing the history and traditions of Judaism play a significant role. Our exhibition commemorating Passover, one of the most important Jewish holidays, already in its fifth year, is part of this series. Every year we choose a different aspect of the holiday, and the invited artists reflect on this aspect in their work, be it graphics, paintings, objects, or location-specific installations. So far, we have had the following themes: Matzo, the symbolic food of the holiday; the story of the kid on Seder evening; the Secret Passover that deals with the history of the Iberian Jews in the Middle Ages; the ten Egyptian plagues, and the Song of the Sea paying gratitude for salvation.

Why is it important?

Why is it important?

For us, descendants, the most remarkable interpretation and message of Passover are that we gained freedom for which we had to make sacrifices. Freedom is also the fundamental question of being an artist. That is why year after year in our Passover exhibition series it is confirmed: it is possible to discuss sacred issues authentically and progressively through any visual medium.

Why is it special?

Why is it special?

Among the artists, there are Jews and non-Jews, just like among the audience that visits our gallery. The introduction of a Jewish holiday through contemporary artworks helps to promote the dialogue between the Jewish community and the majority of society. Our Passover-themed exhibitions also present aspects of general relevance and are worthy of further consideration for those who otherwise have little or no interest in religious life.
