About this project

Haver Junior, created in 2020, is Haver's latest workshop for schools. Unlike the previous workshops developed for high school students, Haver Junior targets the 11 to 14 age group. During the 90-minute sensitization workshop with young students, we process topics like the multilayered aspect of identity, belonging to different groups, or questions of stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination in everyday life with the help of various interactive methods. Young Jewish volunteers lead the workshops. They also talk about their Jewish identity to allow the students to hear and ask about Judaism face-to-face.

Why is it important?

Haver's twenty years of experience show that there are still stereotypes and prejudices against Jews – and other minorities – among high school students. We can only alter this attitude successfully, or at least challenge it if we are able to recognize it. Most elementary school students have limited knowledge about Jews and other minorities. However, they have realized that there are differences between them and 'others', between 'us' and 'them', and they also know what discrimination is like. Our Haver Junior workshops deal exactly with these topics together with the students and help them reflect on their thoughts and experiences.

Why is it special?

Haver's workshops, utilizing the tools of non-formal education, fight against stereotypes and prejudices regarding Judaism with the hope that they can contribute to preventing anti-semitism. During these workshops, we deal with complex topics like the diversity of Jewish identities, Jewish history, and the Holocaust. Haver Junior was born out of the desire to have an interesting and age-appropriate workshop also for young people between 11 and 14 to talk about Judaism and minorities in general.
