Jewish Community for Beginners and Experts

About this project

“Jewish Community for Beginners and Experts” is an 18-episode video series for those who have never studied Judaism before, but even thought-provoking for experts, including community members. On the one hand, it provides help for those who do not want to learn about the Jewish community from schoolbooks, and it can inspire members of the community to discuss certain topics. Although the lectures often start with the past, they reflect on the present and also analyze the challenges and current issues that the Jewish community faces. The goal of the project is to talk about Jewish values in the light of history and tradition and to look into the future to show the image of a stronger, more diverse, and self-sustaining Jewish community.

Why is it important?

Why is it important?

Our primary goal with the video series on the website was to initiate dialogue, debate, and collective thinking in the community about topics and issues that are currently not part of the community discourse. Or, if they are, they are presented from a rather simplified, out-of-date perspective in the exclusive interpretation of one organization or opinion leader. There are many discussions in the community about fragmentation, the lack of common goals, and a shared vision. At the same time, numerous Jewish community nonprofit organizations and initiatives – including the ones behind this video series – aim to define an up-to-date, open, and inclusive 21st-century vision of the Jewish community.

Why is it special?

Why is it special?

The project does not offer ready-made answers but poses questions and dilemmas. It treats the past and tradition not as the limit to its interpretation but as its starting point. Instead of the individual, it focuses on the identity, life, and values of the community. It does this to build a community that is not afraid of questions and changes. Moreover, by integrating these elements, it will become resilient.
